Chapter 24: Tuatha’s Garden… of Hell

Hello all!  This is the Civic Holiday long weekend, so I’ve been trying to catch up on everyone’s blogs.  Work is winding now; we were supposed to be finished on Friday but they asked me to come in next week.  My brain is going to be so grateful once this is over!  Imagine scanning barcode after barcode, 8 hours straight, that’s nearly 1,600 books a day.  O_o

Also, I keep meaning to mention this: This blog’s got over 500 views! Actually, now it’s over 600! So thank you to everybody who’s enjoying the story!

Vacation 9 – Day 1:

Tristan remembering his lost love.

Tristan remembering his lost love.

Yep, they’re in France again. Tristan is still working on the curse of the Dragon Cave from China, and he learns from the nectar merchant that James Vaughan (him again!) got in a fight with the big bad, Admiral Landgraab, when tried to rescue Anastasia Beaverhausen. Long story short, find the keystone in the Chateau.

Cascadia getting struck by lightning.

Cascadia getting struck by lightning.

Before marrying Pascal Morel, Cascadia gets to meet some of her future in-laws.  Apparently papa Gérard has passed on, but Edith is still alive and married to someone named Beau Saint James (who I believe is a woman).  Pascal also has a teenage sister named Celina.  Anywho, I sent Cascadia to Tuatha’s Garden which is apparently one of the toughest dungeons in the game.  There’s also this guide which I found most enlightening… especially since none of the pictures load.

Serefina makes a new friend.

Serefina makes a new friend.

Niobe’s on a quest to find that French Gnome in the Mausoleum.  Also as a side-effect of joining the Ghost-Hunting team, she’s also got the super-power of being able to Appease Ghosts, which Google says isn’t really that useful.  I guess if I’m ever bored with legacy ghosts I can use it.

Prometheus joking with some lady.

Prometheus joking with some lady.

Normally I make my Sims jog everywhere to work on their Athletic skill, but for Prometheus I’ve decided to let him fill out a bit instead.  I’m imagining him as an Inventor, and they don’t necessarily have the most active lifestyle.

Day 2:

Serefina met a French fireman, Gustave Petit.  They have matching Zodiac signs and he’s a Snob.  I’m not a great judge of handsomeness, but she gets the floaty hearts thing which makes me think they’re compatible.  It has me considering if she should drop Brady Davies and chose Gustave as her spouse.

Glitch Time: I saved here, and when I reloaded I had a lot of problems with the game crashing.  I’m still not 100% sure what the problem was.  I think it was because the NPC’s firetruck disappeared, or because somebody was excavating, or because an extra Scooter appeared in someone’s inventory, or something the script error called a “bogus item”.  😕 It was very tiresome.  I ended up deleting the cache files, resetting 2 of the family, and the NPC.

FYI: It is a TERRIBLE idea to delete the cache files on vacation. Why? Because when they went home all of the lots in the neighbourhood were unnamed.

Ew, how did Gustave's hair get so long..?

Ew, how did Gustave’s hair get so long..?

Tristan finished exploring the Landgraab Chateau, which is now 6 out of 6 French tombs!  There’s only one country left for his LTW: China.

“Now what?”

“Now what?”

Now that Virgil’s passed the torch onto Serefina and reached Erikson’s eighth stage of psychological development, it’s time for some well-earned rest. So he teleported to his island again for some nice relaxing relaxation. I totally forgot to show off his new tattoos last time. He’s got a broken heart on his chest for Keri, a skull because it’s bad-ass, and a Wolf for the family name:

Niobe got to meet one of the French ghosts, Gertrude Lescot, who died from drowning.  Random fact, Gertrude doesn’t have any traits.

Glitch Time again: Cascadia’s still in Tuatha’s Garden, and there are several routing issues.  There’s 2 hallways that are just too skinny for a Sim to walk through, Virgil wasn’t able to teleport in there, but you need to step on a switch in order to move on.

Day 3:

I ended up editing Tuatha’s Garden so that Cascadia could finish it. Nothing cheaty that would make the dungeon easier. I basically had to reconstruct the two hallways so that they were wide enough to walk through, and then painted them to match. Very annoying.  She did find a lot of rare fruits on the way to the island though.

“Taste’s like Lime Kool-Aid!”

“Taste’s like Lime Kool-Aid!”

Most of the family were just doing random adventure quests, so I had them hang out instead.  Prometheus and Tristan, Serefina and Niobe are all friends.

"Have you ever seen a bird? Their arms are all like this!"

However, Niobe and Prometheus are borderline-enemies now.

“I like trees.”

Glitch Time again again: Niobe actually found the French Gnome in the last 10 minutes of the French Adventure.  It was really lucky!  However due to some game glitchery (because I deleted the cache on vacation), I had to reload and lost it.  uh, so I had the gnome for like 5 minutes but now it’s gone. 😦

Chapter 22: A Distant Cousin

Sorry for the delay in posting.  I’ve done something weird to my right shoulder on Tuesday.  I think it’s because I got a tetanus shot but my mum thinks it’s from work.  It’s not paralyzed, but it’s in a lot of pain when I move it.  Also I updated the Mods list and divided up the Rules page into expansions.

Vacation 8 – Day 1:

I am so confused about which Adventures have been completed and which tombs Tristan needs to explore. So I made an Excel chart (which is what I usually do to sort out things). It has lots of colours! And thick border lines! *nerds out*

Wait, how is Pascal from France on vacation in China?

Wait, how is Pascal from France on vacation in China?

Now that Tristan has the Axe of Pangu, he needs to explore the Hot Springs and find some mysterious trinket for Bao.

Virgil lost his magical key so he needs to bake another one.  And I’m sure it’s delicious!  He also beats up some of the locals in the name of Martial Arts.

“Cannonball!”

“Cannonball!”

Keri gets a new quest which involves deciphering a curious note.  Apparently Dong Huo stole a valueless worthless priceless heirloom from Ziyi Yuan and it’s up to Keri to retrieve it.

um, how to describe Serefina, Niobe and Cascadia’s vacation: Fetch, return, rinse, repeat.

“AHHHH!”

“AHHHH!”

Day 2:

Tristan scratched off 3 more tombs off his “to-mb-do list”, and Lee Kim-Yao was so happy about the broken boulder that he gave Tristan §4,000.  Lee also finishes that Meditation Statue and sends Tristan on a Pilgrim’s Walk about China.

“Oh hell.”

“Oh hell.”

Serefina’s decided it’s time to take up Martial Arts.  Strong, brave, able to break pieces of wood, this could potentially be very useful in a future career… but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Serefina learning Martial Arts just like her father.

Serefina learning Martial Arts just like her father.

Virgil lost ANOTHER car.  Seriously, this is like the third one!  TEARS!  He also sparred with many, many Sim-Fu masters.  That’s like all he really did this entire trip.

Glittery Virgil, plus Dan Dan Pei, the oldest teen in China.

Glittery Virgil, plus Dan Dan Pei, the oldest teen in China.

Keri’s note was written in the ancient code of Dong Huo, so she gets in his treasure trove and finds the missing artifact.

Cascadia found a relic with a piece missing, but collects it from Rui Xi Xio.  I also noted that there are 3 different Sims all named “Lu” living in China.  I’m sure the random name generator could come up with enough names that it doesn’t have to start repeating already.

Cascadia’s winning the “Make the Scariest Face” contest.

Cascadia’s winning the “Make the Scariest Face” contest.

Day 3:

Tristan uses Thunderbolt!

Tristan uses Thunderbolt!

Apparently Tristan is referred to in the prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force the Dragon Cave.  For some reason James Vaughan tried to fix the Dragon Cave sometime during the last century but then he didn’t, so Tristan has to brew a memory potion.  This helps jog the memory of Liang Wang-Yat Sen , who remembers that Sin Pah kept a journal on all of this, and now Tristan has to go find a nectar-merchant in France to get the Dragon Cave keystone.  *rereads this last paragraph*  … This is very convoluted.

The game spawns a random Sim called “Ze Lei Shin Yi-Wolfe“.  I kid you not.

They kindof look related, right?

They kindof look related, right?

I think Story Progression did it just to perplex me.  Not only does Mr. Ze have 5 names (how ridiculous!*), but apparently he’s a long-lost relative of the Wolfe family.

*Says the guy with 6 names.

I think he kindof looks like Tristan, but maybe not.  I had to do some imaginating, but here’s what I came up with:

Alexander actually had a never-before-mentioned younger brother named Herb, who stayed in Sim-ope with their parents Marjorie and Klaus.  Continuing in their free-spirited lifestyle, he eventually made his way to Shang Simla where he met his wife, Meiling Yi.  Together they formed the Yi-Wolfe household, and raised a single son, who they named Ze Lei Shin.  This makes Ze an uncle first-cousin once removed to Serefina Niobe and Prometheus, a first cousin to Virgil and Tristan, and also explains why he’s got the same hair-colour as Tristan.

(Let’s just ignore the fact that Tristan got his blonde locks from his mother’s side of the family instead of the Wolfe side, okay?)

So Virgil got his Sparring Tournament Rank #4.  Just one more to go!  Now let us bravely flee this land of tranquil forests and return to the realm of sand and sun.

Chapter 18: The Correct Term is “Little Person”

Hello erstwhile readers!  I’m sorry for the delay in posting, this job is really exhausting on my poor ol’ bones… Literally.  This weird bump-thingy is growing out of my wrist.  But I have a few days off, so I’ll catch up.

Also, don’t forget to vote for the torch-wielder, because it says only 2 people have voted.  (And I might’ve been 1 of them.)

Vacation 6 – Day 1:

I sent the Wolfe family to France, because I’m afraid Tristan won’t be able to complete his lifetime achievement award if he doesn’t visit all the tombs.  (Not the worst thing in the world, but points are points.)

Virgil needs to ask some guy called Zacharie Goulan (seriously..?) on a date for Collette, so I start a fire at the hotel to summon Zacharie from the ether.

Virgil teleports to the impossible island.

Virgil teleports to the impossible island.

Tristan’s relationship to Tanner died, because apparently I didn’t understand that he was supposed to fix it.  Oh well!  Tristan gets Edith to translate the Admiral’s papers using the legendary Vaughan Cipher.

“Who is that guy?”

“Who is that guy?”

Keri needs to ask some guy called Jules Fournier (who Wikipedia assures me was a French-Canadian writer) on a date for Collette.  Yep, same Collette as before.  Girl gets around!

The floating head child.

The floating head child.

Day 2:

Virgil found some cool rare grapes on the impossible island.  He’s kindof trapped there, and since he doesn’t know how to move the island he has to teleport off again.

"We have to go back, Keri!"

“We have to go back, Keri!”

Cascadia explores Lea’s haunted basement, which is infested by a fussy ghost who wants pomegranates planted around his grave… around its grave..?

Keri’s tasked with finding the missing Anastasia Necteaux, who was kidnapped (and probably murdered) by Admiral Landgraab.  It turns out that the famous James Vaughan tried to rescue her, but didn’t.  What a jerk!

Day 3:

"I'm guilty of being a dwarf!"

“I’m guilty of being a dwarf!”

Glitch time: Virgil found a “little person” living in France.  I think the game tried to give an adult set of clothes to a child, so now her limbs are all gangly and out of proportion.  So not technically a “little person”, but actually a short tall person. (…?)  It got me thinking, why are there no “little people” in the Sims universe?

Screenshot-545  Screenshot-540

Tristan and Keri teamed up to explore the Admiral’s Estate.  This tomb is completely booby-trapped BTW.

Cascadia spends some time flirting with her boyfriend, Pascal.

Lastly, Cascadia needs to bury her ghost’s corpse near his lover.  Ghosts are very picky about random things, it would seem.  Back home we go!
